Super D ~ 1st in Pro Men
Nordic Mountain, Wisconsin - Great Trails and Racing.
I was glad to finish the trip with a solid/clean XC race. I started second row, right behind Todd Wells just like the last two Pro XCT races that I had previously done. We smashed it out in a grass paddock for the start loop which included a G Out to Double! Best jump on the course....too bad we only did it once. I was sitting about 5th when our pack started to head up the wrong hill. The whole race pack was split, so I got on the gas and was sitting in second place for the first lap.
Lap 2 was interesting, a few riders that went the wrong way caught up and passed me in a pack, But Jeremiah Bishop (who was disadvantaged the most) was slowly fighting back to the front. He called many times to pass me when he was over 6 seconds back from me. We finally came to a open section for him to open it up to pass me, but at the end of the lap Jeremiah has a big crash going around a corner into a rock garden chute. He then slowly got back on his bike as I came flying around the corner having to hit the brakes and ride the whole chute on my ass with my back wheel buzzing my leg trying not to flip. Hectic. Thankfully Matt Luger Filmed it.
Lap 3,4 and 5 I plugged along trying to stay consistent. Lap 6 ( nearing 1hour50min ) I started to feel alot stronger and finished on a fast lap passing a couple of riders, putting me in 17th position.
SUPER :D
Great Fun
With the Le man running start, Back at school I would get 20 seconds for the 100m sprint, so I knew I wasn't going to get the 'hole shot'.
Gun went off, I ran to my bike which was about 15m, then ran in up a hill, about a further 10m. I was Sitting about 8th, I then sprinted to make up as many positions before the single track. I got in 5th. The Single track had alot of rock gardens that we were hitting with nothing to see but dust. I slowly picked them off by shouldering trees and inside lines. By the opening I got myself into 3rd position and sprinted after the other 2. This was about 5 minuets into the race. I got into second place up over a pinch. It was me and Nathan Guerra burning it out finishing on the short track course. In the end I put 4 seconds into him.
I was happy to end the trip with a win.
