Adelaide 2014 - National round 1

2014 National XCO Series round 1

Adelaide

Elite men ~ 12th
U23 ~ 4th

It was not an ideal start to the my 15th year of racing mountain bikes. One of my amazing instagram worthy foods had givin me some sort of food poisoning on the Wednesday the day before I flew out.

I loaded up on Torq Energy to stay hydrated and well carb loaded, it was enough to replace what had gone straight through me to the bowl. The day before the race I was feeling alot better, tho I still have to say sorry to my room mates especially Ellie Wale whos bed was right next to the bathroom.

2014 has brought a new format to national XCO racing. U23 now race with the Elite men and do he same amount of laps, which I personally like because we get to race with Australia's best riders.

Race report:

I managed to have number 2 on my plate so I was second on the line. Gun went off and I was about 3rd to the first hill and about 7th(4th in U23) into the single track. In the second lap I moved back to about 9th and was sitting in 11th for most of the race. It was a golden moment when from lap 3 to about lap 5 U23 rider Chris Aiken was chasing me down but when he passed it was his Elite team mate wearing the same kit, the new format has some flaws but im sure we will get usto whos in what category soon. On the last lap I my race time was nearing 1hour 50min so I was slowing down but held 12th(4th in U23) In the end.

Having no idea what I came because of the new format I was pleasantly suprized with my results cosindering my sickness leading into it.

Post race the team headed to our local pub in Hahndolf where Jason Lowndes, Chris Hamilton and my self ordered the 600g chicken schnitzel which turned out to be grey beef.

Parmy Race Report:

Chris Hamilton was fast straight off the line feeling very confident, probably due to his good choice in sauce what ever it was but it was better than my second bad choice of getting Dianne sauce which was drowning my schnitzel and looked way to similar to what I saw in toilet bowl he last few days. Chris Hamilton slowed down very quickly and Jason kept eating and won and complained about a itchy thumb..I mean neck. As I could only eat half of it I dissected the schnitzel to discover that the 'beef' was a grey jelly like meat. Didnt even look like meat. Em's 'medium rare' steak was so under done it was pissing blood like Cedric Gracia's ball sack.
