Stage 1 of the cape was un real.
7th in Elite.
I didn't expect to be hit by a wave from the ocean in a mountain bike race
I havnt had the best lead up to this race, this monday I came down with the flu and just doing what I can to get by.
The start of stage 1 was fairly crusie, i sat with the lead pack for about 5ks. Then I hit a soft sandy rut on a corner and flipped. I lost a fair bit of time so I uped the pace to form a pack with Pauly van man, which was good because he blocks the wind like a fridge for Somoaan family. I then pulled away with a couple of others. Then we hit the beach which deserves its own paragraph.
The beach was ruthless just getting there was a mission then as soon as I got to the waters edge my tires dug in and coulnt get away from the wave of water that filled my shoes and every possible part of my bike including my garmin.
it was so difficult I might as well of beenn trying to ride in the ocean it self. The sand was off camber and slushy, there was 2 to 3 k's of this beach. Then we had to run out and up the sand dunes.
The rest of the race was not to bad. Chris Hamilton and my self were grinding it out to the end when he went to wide on a corner so I pushed on to the finish to end up wih 7th.
Its great to have the Torq team support through out this week. Dean and Ed are flat out looking after us. Absolute ledgends.
Resting up for day 2.
